gato y mancha: from ayacucho to New York

A journey through the Musical Folklore of Argentina

On April 24, 1925, Mancha and Gato, two Argentinian Criollo horses from Ayacucho, in the province of Buenos Aires, traveled 21,500 kms (13,500 miles) to New York and conquered the world record for distance and altitude traveled. Their owner wanted to show to the world the strength of the Criollo breed, low in height and resistant like few others.

Fabián Veloz and Sebastian Fernández Cerri, celebrating that great feat, undertake this musical journey joining their hometown of Ayacucho and the city of New York, including various styles of the Argentinian musical folklore and bringing forward the roots of Argentina's musical heritage.

With Metropolitan Opera baritone Fabián Veloz giving voice to this program, arrangements by maestro Sebastian Fernández Cerri, and featuring Grammy winning bandoneón player Rodolfo Zanetti, Grammy winning bass player Pedro Giraudo, young violin virtuoso Savion Washington, and the participation of Opera Hispánica General and Artistic Director, maestro Jorge Parodi, this evening arrives at the Consulate of Argentina in New York with the strength emanating from the deepest roots.

A collaboration between the Consulate of Argentina in New York, PAMAR (Pan American Musical Art Research, Inc), the program includes Cuando llegue el alba, Vidala para mi sombra, Nostalgias, and El cielo del albañil, among many other selections.
