Opera Hispánica is the premiere performing arts organization that empowers Latin artists and develops our communities through groundbreaking cultural productions and musical content.

Opera Hispánica is the newest performing arts organization on the New York City cultural scene. Our mission is to present operas that are either in the Spanish language, written by a Hispanic/Latino composer, and/or inspired by Latin American themes and topics.

Opera Hispánica is the only opera company in the United States to exclusively celebrate and promote opera and vocal works centered around the Latin American and Spanish experience. Its goal is to produce and present opera productions in association with other companies and presenters.

The Opera Hispánica Festival is the company flagship enterprise.

Taking place every spring at leading venues throughout New York City, the festival includes an array of events and educational programming such as concerts, fully-staged productions, panel discussions, and master classes. Previous festival artists include renowned opera stars Eglise Gutiérrez, Isabel Leonard, and Martina Arroyo.

The inaugural Opera Hispánica Festival attracted major attention and media exposure reaching out to over 12 million people world-wide.

Metropolitan Opera Radio

"Opera Hispánica’s production was an elegant tribute to Piazzolla’s and Ferrer’s ability to combine music,

movement and words of hallucinatory power in a concentrated format that is as pungent and stimulating as

a cup of espresso."

The New York Times

"Piazzolla's languid melodies locked in. It was as if opera had begun again from nothing, conjured out of

the night."

The New Yorker

"Esta ópera-tango es parte del primer festival que realiza Ópera Hispánica, cuyo programa incluye además

zarzuela, y que tiene un componente educativo para dar a conocer las obras de compositores latinos a

estudiantes."

EFE

"La ópera en español se adueña de Nueva York/ Spanish opera takes over

New York."

Associated Press (AP)

"The purely musical excitement of the event, for me, lay in the orchestration of the songs for an ensemble

of nine. Jorge Parodi led the extraordinary band, and the music was arranged to display their particular

gifts."

Parterre Box

"With a goal of showcasing Hispanic and Latino composers and compositions, the fledgling group certainly

hit their mark, and the packed house was inevitably left wanting more."

Feast of Music

"Maria de Buenos Aires was given an admirable production as the capstone of the Opera Hispanica

Festival…The applause was deafening and the many curtain calls responded to the adulation of the

audience.”
