movement and words of hallucinatory power in a concentrated format that is as pungent and stimulating as
a cup of espresso."
The New York Times
"Piazzolla's languid melodies locked in. It was as if opera had begun again from nothing, conjured out of
the night."
The New Yorker
"Esta ópera-tango es parte del primer festival que realiza Ópera Hispánica, cuyo programa incluye además
zarzuela, y que tiene un componente educativo para dar a conocer las obras de compositores latinos a
estudiantes."

"La ópera en español se adueña de Nueva York/ Spanish opera takes over
New York."

"The purely musical excitement of the event, for me, lay in the orchestration of the songs for an ensemble
of nine. Jorge Parodi led the extraordinary band, and the music was arranged to display their particular
gifts."
Parterre Box
"With a goal of showcasing Hispanic and Latino composers and compositions, the fledgling group certainly
hit their mark, and the packed house was inevitably left wanting more."
Feast of Music
"Maria de Buenos Aires was given an admirable production as the capstone of the Opera Hispanica
Festival…The applause was deafening and the many curtain calls responded to the adulation of the
audience.”
